The Maldives Zakat House conducted a comprehensive training session on its newly launched Fitr Portal today at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs as part of efforts to advance digital governance and modernise operations within the national Zakat framework.

The session was attended in person by Zakat House staff, while Island, Atoll, and City Council officials from across the country joined online. According to the Zakat House, the training forms a key part of preparations for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, strengthening coordination mechanisms for the collection and administration of Fitr Zakat nationwide.

Zakat House said the Fitr Portal, introduced on February 2, represents a significant milestone in the digital transformation of Zakat services. It is designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in cash-based Zakat collection, particularly for contributors who may not be familiar with online payment methods.

The portal is intended exclusively for operational use by Zakat House and local councils and is not accessible to the public. When contributors pay Fitr Zakat in cash at local council offices or the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, authorised staff will record the payment directly into the Fitr Portal. Contributors will receive an instant SMS notification confirming the amount paid, including any additional Sadaqat contributions, ensuring clarity and transparency.

The system introduces a standardised national framework for recording cash collections, enabling real-time monitoring of payments. This allows Zakat House to consolidate daily Fitr Zakat figures from both digital and cash transactions, enhancing financial oversight and supporting data-driven decision-making.

Access to real-time consolidated data is expected to improve institutional efficiency, enabling timely planning and equitable distribution of Fitr Zakat to eligible beneficiaries across all islands before the end of Ramadan, in line with Shari’ah principles.
