This operation, conducted by the Coastguard’s second squadron, was initiated based on information provided by a local fishing vessel, ‘Asuruma 03’. Acting on this tip-off, four of the fishing vessels were seized on September 18th.
The Coastguard’s patrol craft, ‘Nooradheen’, intercepted these vessels approximately 85 miles off K. Kaashidhoo during a routine patrol.
The fifth vessel was apprehended during the night of September 18th. It was located by the Coastguard’s ship ‘Ghaazee’ roughly 77 miles off Lhaviyani Atoll, again during a patrol.
Following their seizure, all five vessels were transported to Male’ and subsequently docked at Dhoonidhoo harbor on September 20th, where they were officially handed over to the Maldives Police.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) expressed its appreciation for the collaboration and support received from local fishermen, who played a crucial role in assisting the Coastguard’s efforts to safeguard the security of Maldivian territories.
