National carrier, Maldivian, has announced a significant reduction in fares on its Colombo route, with tickets available from USD 99. The airline confirmed that its Airbus A320 aircraft will operate the service, which is scheduled for 7 and 9 December.

The initiative aims to capture market share while enhancing the quality of service offered to passengers. Maldivian has stated its ambition to become the preferred carrier between Malé and Colombo by combining competitive fares with improved passenger benefits. Travellers on the Colombo service will receive a complimentary baggage allowance of 35 kilogrammes per person, a measure intended to ease travel for Maldivian citizens and strengthen tourism links with Sri Lanka.

Maldivian’s expansion extends beyond Colombo, with special holiday-season flights scheduled to Bangkok, Thailand, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These services will operate throughout December and January to meet heightened demand during the festive period and to broaden the airline’s international reach.

The carrier operates a fleet of 25 aircraft, including one wide-body Airbus A330, one narrow-body Airbus A320, five ATR aircraft, eight Dash 8 aircraft, and eleven Dash 6 Twin Otter aircraft.
