The Ministry of Health has announced that Maldivian doctors now have the opportunity to undertake internships at five foreign hospitals. This development is part of ongoing efforts to enhance medical training opportunities for local professionals.

In addition to these international placements, the Ministry revealed that work is underway to increase internship opportunities at local hospitals. Arrangements are being made to offer internships at government-run facilities in the Maldives.

Traditionally, many Maldivian medical graduates have faced difficulties securing internships locally, prompting many to seek placements abroad, particularly in Bangladesh. Previously, Maldivian graduates had the option to intern at Chittagong Medical College Hospital and Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Through collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health has now confirmed internship opportunities at five additional medical colleges in Bangladesh. These include Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, Mymensingh Medical College, Rajshahi Medical College, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogura, and Cox’s Bazaar Medical College. All five institutions are recognised by the medical and dental councils of both countries.

Maldivian doctors interested in applying for internships at these hospitals are encouraged to send their requests via email to training@health.gov.mv.
