Law students of Villa College’s Faculty of Shariah and Law (FSL) took part in the 21st Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot, joining a prestigious gathering of 144 international teams in Hong Kong for the main oral rounds.

The Vis Pre-Moot programme spans nine months, providing law students with invaluable training in oral and written advocacy and international commercial arbitration.

Ahead of the competitive event in Hong Kong, the Villa College team diligently prepared during the written submission phase, engaging in various training programmes and boot camps hosted worldwide.

This included virtual participation in the Central Asia Vis Moot Training sessions, where fruitful discussions with teams from over 40 countries helped in shaping arguments for their claimant memorandum. Additionally, the team benefited from the MENA Vis Moot Winter Bootcamp in Dubai as well as the 14th Annual MENA Vis Pre-Moot in Abu Dhabi, a comprehensive event consisting of training sessions and mock arbitrations.

Their efforts culminated in a commendable performance at the AlexU-CRCICA Vis Pre-Moot V in Cairo, Egypt, where they reached the quarterfinals, with Ms. Malsaa Ahmed (LLB) securing the 3rd place for the best pleader award representing the claimants.

Villa College said the Vis Moot journey is a significant milestone in the students’ development, offering them a platform to simulate real-life cases, nurturing the skills essential for legal counsel.  Villa College aims for their students to be a part of this formative experience every year.
