In total, 119 Maldivians are currently living in Bangladesh. The High Commission has advised these individuals to comply with the curfew regulations imposed by the Bangladeshi government and to reach out for assistance if needed.
Bangladesh has experienced violent confrontations between students and security forces, resulting in over 200 deaths, according to BBC Bangla.
In response to the ongoing unrest, the Maldives High Commission in Bangladesh has been diligently monitoring the situation involving its citizens.
Protests in Bangladesh intensified following a Supreme Court ruling on July 21 that reduced the veterans’ quota for jobs to 5 percent. The ruling also stipulates that 93 percent of positions should be filled based on merit.
