Maldivian Resumes Flights to Kooddoo Airport Post-Runway Renovations
The Maldives’ national airline, Maldivian, has recommenced scheduled flights to Kooddoo Airport in Gaafu Alif Atoll, following the completion of extensive runway renovations.
Flights to Kooddoo had been temporarily suspended since early September due to the deteriorating runway conditions, which impacted service and caused damage to two of Maldivian’s aircraft, grounding them.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, highlighted the ongoing collaborative efforts between the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), air operators, and other relevant authorities to address these operational challenges.
With the runway improvements now complete, Maldivian will operate two scheduled flights per day to Kooddoo Airport. Originally inaugurated in 2012, the airport underwent prior upgrades in 2017 to facilitate larger aircraft and jets, enhancing regional connectivity.
