Maldivians will now be able to open seller accounts on China’s leading e-commerce platform, Alibaba.com, as part of efforts to expand access to international markets, under the Free Trade Agreement.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade confirmed that a workshop with Alibaba experts is scheduled for 16 September to guide local entrepreneurs through the process of registering, promoting and selling products on the platform.

The initiative forms part of ongoing discussions with Alibaba.com supported by the Chinese government and is linked to wider efforts to strengthen bilateral trade relations through the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement.

According to the ministry, the development also aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to create opportunities for Maldivians to sell goods on global online platforms.
