Both Thailand and Myanmar have declared a state of emergency in response to the disaster. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Maldivians in these countries to adhere to the instructions issued by local authorities.

Contact details have been provided for those in need of assistance or further information. Maldivians in Thailand requiring support are advised to contact the hotline number of the Embassy of Maldives in Thailand or the hotline number of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Those in Myanmar have also been encouraged to reach out through the provided contact channels.

A powerful earthquake struck Southeast Asia on Friday, resulting in multiple casualties and significant structural damage. The tremors caused the collapse of a skyscraper under construction in Bangkok and led to the destruction of buildings and bridges in neighbouring Myanmar, where the ruling junta has declared a state of emergency in affected areas.

At least three people lost their lives in the town of Taungoo, Myanmar, after a mosque partially collapsed, according to witnesses. Local media also reported that at least two people died and 20 were injured when a hotel collapsed in Aung Ban.
