Male’ City Council Initiates Measures to Introduce Vehicle Cap

The newly appointed Mayor of Male’ City, Adam Azim, announced the commencement of efforts to implement a vehicle cap within the capital, in a press conference held at the Male’ city council’s office, yesterday.

Mayor Azim revealed that he has collaborated with the Transport Ministry to establish a restriction on the number of vehicles permitted to operate within the city limits. Discussions have already taken place with key officials, including Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen and Home Minister Mohamed Ihsaan.

The mayor expressed his intention to finalise the designated vehicle limit in collaboration with the Transport Ministry over the next six months.

Addressing concerns raised during his recent door-to-door campaign, Azim highlighted the pressing issues related to garage congestion and parking facilities. He assured the public that coordinated efforts with relevant authorities would be undertaken to address and resolve these challenges.

Mayor Azim emphasised his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for city residents, stating, “I would endorse any measures that contribute to providing a comfortable life for the people residing in the city.” 

The forthcoming months are anticipated to involve further discussions and collaborative efforts to implement the proposed vehicle cap.
