The Male’ City Council has issued a directive regarding the placement of presidential campaign banners on the date palms lining Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
The council’s announcement today highlighted concerns over the affixing of campaign banners to these trees by certain parties participating in the upcoming presidential election. According to the council, such actions have led to inadvertent damage to the trees.
In response to these concerns, the Male’ City council has called upon all parties involved to refrain from attaching campaign banners or flags to the date palms and other foliage in the area. Instead, they have emphasised that such promotional materials should be securely fastened to designated structures, such as pipelines, only after obtaining the necessary permissions.
Notably, the city council has already invested a sum of MVR 2 million as part of their ambitious “100,000 Trees Programme,” aimed at enhancing the greenery along the southern side of the road.
The Date Palms, a key element of this initiative, have been strategically planted to both beautify the urban landscape and contribute to the city’s environmental health.
