Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has revealed that the road development in the capital city is set to commence later this year, with China’s free aid.
During a press conference held to update the public on the Ministry of Construction’s activities, Dr. Muththalib confirmed that the tarring of roads in Malé city will kick off in the upcoming months. This project, initially slated for inclusion in the government’s budget, received a significant boost during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to China in January, where China pledged to undertake the endeavor as part of its aid to the Maldives.
Dr. Muththalib revealed that preliminary design work has already been undertaken, but the project will now be executed as free aid from China. The Chinese agency will oversee project arrangements and contractor procurement. Planning is currently underway, with the intention to commence work within the year, as stated by Minister Mutalib.
In addition to road upgrades, the Minister confirmed plans to enhance the water and sewerage network alongside road development, funded through the government’s budget.
