Male’ City to Implement Special Equipment for Monitoring Toxic Gases

Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has announced the installation of special equipment to detect toxic gases in Male’ city.
Speaking at the launch of the Integrated Transport Master Plan for the Male’ city, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim highlighted the government’s commitment to implementing monitoring devices across Male’, Villimale’, and Hulhumale’. As part of the project, toxic gas detectors have already been deployed in two areas of Hulhumale’.
Minister Thoriq emphasised the significance of this initiative in the context of climate change mitigation. The installation of monitoring devices in Male’ city is underway, with the aim of facilitating timely action in response to detected toxic gas levels.
Highlighting the health risks associated with toxic gas emissions, Minister Thoriq expressed the government’s commitment to creating a safer living environment for the people of Male’. Crowded areas, such as Male’, pose a higher risk of health issues due to vehicle emissions.
In conjunction with the Integrated Transport Master Plan, the Environment Ministry announced the introduction of an electric bus and electric bike scheme. This initiative aims to reduce the dependency on oil, decrease emissions, and enhance sustainable transportation options.
Under the comprehensive plan, both road and sea vehicles will undergo a transition to electric power, accompanied by strengthened rules and policies governing vehicle control, traffic management, and parking. Electric buses and bikes will be integrated into the public transport system, contributing to a safer and more sustainable transport network.
The Ministry affirmed its commitment to creating safer roads, improving ease of use, and strengthening the overall transport system in a sustainable manner. The introduction of electric vehicles and the implementation of monitoring devices align with the government’s broader efforts to address environmental concerns and promote public health in Male’ city.
