Male’ Mayoral Hopefuls Receive Candidate Numbers in Draw

The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) conducted a draw today at Dharubaaruge to assign candidate numbers to those vying for the Male’ City mayoral by-election next year.

The by-election, scheduled for January 13, is set to fill the vacancy left by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who resigned from the position of Male’ City mayor to assume the role of the Maldivian president in November.
Additionally, three council seats become available after councilors Abdulla Nasir (representing South Maafannu constituency), Adam Rameez (representing Central Henveiru constituency), and Fathimath Shamnaz Ali Saleem (representing South Henveiru constituency) resigned to assume roles in the new administration.
The deadline for candidacy submissions for the by-election was on December 13.
