Man Arrested for Drug Abuse Seeks Release to Care for Autistic Child
A 43-year-old man from Malé, who was arrested on suspicion of drug abuse, has sought release from custody, citing the need to care for his autistic child.
The suspect was presented before the Criminal Court on last Thursday for a remand hearing. During the session, an investigative officer informed the court that the man’s urine had tested positive for three different types of drugs.
The suspect requested leniency, stating that he has two young children and that this was his first offence.
However, Judge Adam Mohamed ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for ten days, noting that the arrest was made in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act.
