Man Arrested for Speedboat Accident While Intoxicated

The Maldives Police Service has arrested a man in connection with a speedboat accident while intoxicated.

Police reported that they received a call on Sunday at around 7:26pm about a collision between a speedboat and a ferry near Vaadhoo Resort in Kaafu Atoll. Officers dispatched to the scene confirmed that the driver of the speedboat was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The driver has been identified as Nashaadh Waheed Mohamed, 41, from Zaheera Manzil, M. Kolhufushi. Police confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the accident. The case remains under investigation.

The arrest follows a similar incident last Thursday when police detained another individual in Hulhumale’ for reckless driving while intoxicated. That driver was identified as Mohamed Maais, 23, from Hulhumale’ Flat No. 4-1-07.
