Man Arrested for Viber Fraud Involving Over MVR 150,000

A 22-year-old man from Malé City has been arrested for allegedly compromising a Viber account and defrauding individuals of more than MVR 150,000.

Hussain Farish Umar was taken into custody on 17 December 2025 following a complaint to the Anti-Scam Centre on 30 November 2025. The complaint alleged that Umar had obtained the money by accessing the victim’s Viber account without permission.

The Criminal Court has remanded him in custody for seven days.

A total of four people have now been arrested in connection with the case. The others are: Hassan Azrah, 39, of Flat 06-2-39, Malé City; Ahmed Hassan, 33, of Malé; and Hussain Samah, 33, of Veshi, North Manadhoo.

Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
