Police arrested Mohamed Maais, 23, of H.M. Flat No. 07-1-4, Malé, in connection with the incident. The incident occurred on the night of 1 May 2025, when highway patrol officers observed a car speeding without headlights and with four signal lights flashing. Despite being signalled to stop, the driver failed to comply, prompting police to alert other patrol units.
The vehicle was later sighted on Phase 1, Haivakaru Magu, heading towards Treetop, with patrol teams continuing their search. The driver persisted in driving recklessly, ignoring repeated signals from police to stop.
The car eventually came to a halt near Flat No. 97, Rabarugas Magu. However, as officers approached, the driver attempted to flee once again. The suspect was presented before the court, which ordered his remand in custody for three days.
At the time of the arrest, the car was missing its left rear tyre, which was later recovered nearby. The vehicle also sustained additional damage and has since been towed. Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
