Marine Science Pioneer Hassan Shakeel Passes Away at 64

Hassan Shakeel, a renowned figure in marine science with over 40 years of service, passed away today at the age of 64.

Shakeel, who had a pivotal role in the establishment of the Marine Research Centre, dedicated much of his career to the preservation and revival of marine species.

Throughout his extensive career, Shakeel made significant contributions to the field, particularly in fostering local involvement in marine science. He was instrumental in training numerous young individuals, empowering them with the skills and knowledge necessary to advance in this specialised field.

Following his death, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu expressed his condolences, acknowledging Shakeel’s outstanding service to the nation over several decades.
