MATATO and MMPRC Hosts FAM Trip for US Tour Operators

The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), in collaboration with the Maldives Mission in New York, organised a high-level familiarisation (FAM) trip to strengthen the country’s position in the US tourism market.

In a press release yesterday, MATATO stated that the trip brought a select group of travel advisors from Intele Travel, one of the largest and most established travel companies in the US. The familiarisation visit allowed participants to experience the Maldives’ natural beauty, luxury, and hospitality firsthand.

“The fam trip provided the travel advisors with a unique opportunity to explore the Maldives’ renowned properties, such as Stone Hotels K. Dhiffushi, Villa Resorts, and Diamonds Athuruga Resort and Spa. These properties were selected for their diverse offerings, providing the delegates with a comprehensive view of the Maldives’ rich tourism landscape, from the local island culture, stunning beachfront escapes, to overwater villas and exclusive luxury services,” MATATO said.

In addition to site visits, the advisors experienced key attractions such as the Maldives’ vibrant marine life, pristine beaches, and rich cultural heritage.

Turkish Airlines served as the official airline partner, ensuring seamless travel arrangements for participants. Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) also supported the initiative by managing the group’s logistics.

A key highlight of the trip was an exclusive networking event in Malé, where local travel agents, tour operators, and key industry stakeholders engaged directly with the visiting travel advisors. MATATO described the event as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, fostering new connections and partnerships between the Maldives and the US market.

The United States remains one of the Maldives’ top 10 source markets, with significant growth potential. As more US travellers seek unique and luxurious experiences, the Maldives continues to position itself as a premier destination, offering world-class resorts, exceptional service, and unparalleled natural beauty.

MATATO and MMPRC have outlined plans for further joint initiatives to enhance the Maldives’ presence in the US market.

“The goal is to cultivate deeper connections with US-based travel advisors, tour operators, and consumers, creating greater awareness of the Maldives’ diverse offerings and ensuring it is seen as an ideal destination for luxury holidays, honeymooners, family vacations, and adventure seekers,” MATATO said in their press release.
