According to the satellite data presented by Maumoon, sea levels have escalated by 3.4 millimeters over the course of the last 30 years.
This statement by Maumoon follows his earlier expression of support for President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
In an interview with Qatari Media Al-Jazeera, Muizzu had downplayed concerns about climate change in the Maldives, a viewpoint that received both attention and criticism from the public.
After Muizzu’s interview, Maumoon had commended the President-elect and extended his best wishes for success in a prior post on ‘X.’ However, some members of the public expressed their discontent with Muizzu’s stance on climate change.
In response to the criticism, Mohamed Firuzul, a spokesman for Muizzu, clarified that the President-elect’s concerns regarding climate change do exist and will be addressed.
