MBC Rules Amended, Permitting Unlicensed Channel Viewing
The Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) has made amendments to its regulations regarding the viewing of channels without the requirement for a re-broadcasting license.
The amendments, specifically altering the Re-Broadcasting Rules, have garnered attention for the adjustments they introduce to service licenses and viewing provisions.
As per the revised rules, households are now permitted to view channels for personal use without the necessity of acquiring a re-broadcasting license. The modifications were officially detailed and circulated in the Government Gazette on Thursday following the Broadcasting Commission’s amendments to the Re-Broadcasting Rules.
One notable adjustment pertains to the definition of re-broadcasting for private purposes, categorically indicating the utilization of re-broadcasting services within a household.
This update marks a departure from the earlier Broadcasting Regulations, where households were mandated to possess a license issued by the Broadcasting Commission of Maldives to access cable TV channels. However, the most recent amendment now permits private individuals to view these channels without the previously required license.
