The Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has voiced its apprehension regarding the prolonged delay in securing parliamentary approval for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s 22-member Cabinet, currently at a standstill in the committee stage for several weeks.
President Muizzu formally submitted his request for Cabinet approval on November 20, just two days after the commencement of the new administration.
In a statement issued today, MDA emphasised that, as per legal requirements, the Parliament is obligated to reach a decision on granting approval to Cabinet ministers.
Led by Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, the party expressed deep concern over the Parliament’s procrastination in reaching a decision.
MDA highlighted the crucial role of Cabinet ministers in advising and assisting the President in formulating state policies and executing them. The party underlined that the recent presidential election results demonstrate significant public support for President Muizzu and his team.
Emphasising that the branches of the state should align with the will of the people, MDA revealed its request to Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam to conduct the Cabinet approval vote before the conclusion of the current parliamentary session.
