The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has confirmed ongoing discussions with the Adhaalath Party, exploring the possibility of presenting a united front in the parliamentary elections 2024.

In a statement released yesterday, MDP acknowledged its engagement with the Adhaalath Party in collaborative efforts for the upcoming election. The party expressed its intention to convene further meetings to pinpoint potential areas of mutual cooperation.

Having maintained a steadfast alliance since 2015, Adhaalath has been a consistent partner of MDP, retaining its collaborative position throughout the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The party also extended its endorsement to both Solih and MDP during the 2023 presidential election, standing as the sole coalition partner during the election’s run-off.

While discussions for collaboration surfaced during the 2019 parliamentary election, MDP ultimately opted to field candidates independently in all constituencies, leading to a lack of materialisation.
