The MDP, in a statement, voiced a strong denouncement of the incident, underlining the significance of allowing candidates to exercise their campaign rights unimpeded.
In accordance with the stipulations of the General Elections Act, any form of activity that disrupts or hampers a candidate’s campaign process is strictly prohibited. To this end, competing candidates and their supporters have been urged to cease any activities that might interfere with the campaign of their rivals.
The campaign’s representatives called upon the police authorities to initiate a thorough investigation into the incident. Moreover, an appeal was made to all political parties involved to exercise restraint and refrain from resorting to violence.
Instead, they were encouraged to respect the democratic processes stipulated in the constitution, allowing the elections to unfold in a manner befitting the principles of democracy.
