MDP Confirms 10 Uncontested Nominations for Parliamentary Election

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that an additional 10 members have secured the party’s ticket without contesting for the upcoming parliamentary election
The application period for the primary opened on December 16th, with a deadline set for December 25th. During this timeframe, 36 candidates submitted their applications, securing the ticket without facing any competition as no other individuals applied for the respective constituencies, as confirmed by the party yesterday.
The newly confirmed candidates who secured the ticket without contesting the primary are as follows:
- Kanditheemu constituency – Ameen Faisal
- Inguraidhoo constituency – Saleem Hussain
- Kurendhoo constituency – Ali Niyaz
- Huraa constituency – Shathir Abdul Rahman
- Dhangethi constituency – Rugiyya Mohamed
- Mulah constituency – Moosa Shiyam Abdulla Ali
- Gan constituency – Abdulla Shareef
- Gemanafushi constituency – Ahmed Saeed
- Gadhdhoo constituency – Ahmed Saeed Mohamed
- North Henveiru constituency – Ibrahim Muizzu
MDP’s parliamentary primary is scheduled for February 3rd.
Yesterday, the party disclosed the constituencies that will undergo the primary and the list of candidates who have applied for these positions.
The current 19th parliament witnessed MDP securing a supermajority, marking their strongest electoral performance to date. In light of the party’s setback in September’s presidential election, MDP aims to consolidate its influence by securing as many seats as possible in the upcoming parliamentary election.
