MDP Hands Over Jabir’s Ticket To Abdulla Naseer 

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to award the party’s ticket for Kaashidhoo Constituency to lawyer Abdullah Naseer in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Abdullah Jabir, who is the sitting MP for  Kaadhishoo constituency, had secured the MDP ticket during the party’s primary. However, two days later, the party’s action committee decided to seize Jabir’s ticket and expel him from the party.

The party said that Jabir, as a member of the party, has repeatedly acted in a manner that is against social norms by communicating with people in rude language and creating public discord. Jabir has filed an appeal against the decision.

MDP Deputy Chairman Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey) said the ticket was given to Naseer before the appeal process was completed because the deadline for parliamentary elections was fast-approaching.

The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has also disclosed that any applications for criminal record clearance prior to the deadline is not possible after the 10th of this month, he said.

“Criminal record clearance for Naseer is currently underway,” he added.

Naseer served as the Legal Under Secretary of the President’s Office under the former administration.
