The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that it will hold primary elections in 58 constituencies to select its candidates for the upcoming local council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.
According to the party, ballot boxes will be placed on 39 islands, allowing residents from the designated constituencies to vote for their preferred candidates. MDP has also published the list of eligible voters for the primaries.
The party previously stated that only members registered with the MDP before 26 November will be permitted to vote. Candidate applications for the primaries were open from 28 August to 30 September.
Despite releasing voter lists and polling locations, the MDP has yet to announce the date for the primary elections.
The Elections Commission lists the MDP as the Maldives’ second-largest political party, with 43,765 registered members.
