Medtech has been awarded the contract to construct a 30-bed dialysis centre at Hulhumale’ Hospital.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the hospital by the CEO of Malé Hospitals Group, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, and Medtech Chairman, Ahmed Haikal.

The contract was awarded following a bidding process in which three companies submitted proposals. However, only two of them disclosed their names. Hospital officials stated that the expansion of dialysis services is necessary to accommodate the growing population of Hulhumale’. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance healthcare services in the area.

Hulhumale’ Hospital currently serves approximately 300,000 patients annually and has 10 beds designated for dialysis. Once the new dialysis centre becomes operational, the existing dialysis space will be repurposed for other medical treatments.

The government will not provide direct funding to Medtech for the construction of the dialysis centre. Instead, Medtech will be supplied with the necessary reagents to operate the equipment, in line with the government’s general policy for delivering healthcare services.

In addition to the dialysis centre, the government is planning the construction of a new 250-bed hospital on the same site as Hulhumale’ Hospital. A new 15-storey building is also being developed adjacent to the existing six-storey structure, with healthcare services being upgraded to a tertiary level.
