MET Issues Yellow Alert; Torrential Rain, Thunderstorms Expected

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a yellow alert today for the region spanning from Gaafu Alif Atoll to Addu City.

The yellow alert is in effect from 09:00 to 13:00, today. The forecast warns strong winds of 145 mph with rough seas expected.

Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised by the MMS to remain vigilant and implement appropriate safety measures.

MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:

  • White alert: Alert Level 1
  • Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2
  • Orange warning: Alert Level 3
  • Red warning: Alert Level 4
