Beginning today, strong winds, widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast, with the potential for hazardous conditions both at sea and in coastal areas. The MET Office has indicated that rainfall is likely to intensify during windy periods, increasing the risk of localised flooding and wave surges, particularly during high tides.
According to the forecast, strong average winds and gusty conditions are expected to affect large parts of the country. Sea conditions, especially in open waters, are anticipated to become rough, and may turn very rough during showers. Fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are also likely throughout the period.
The MET Office has urged all seafarers and members of the public to remain alert, monitor official forecasts, and exercise caution during adverse weather.
The south-west monsoon, also known as Hulhun’gu, typically prevails from May to November. Transitional phases are usually observed in April and December, while the northern monsoon occurs between January and March.
