Met Office Issues White Alert to Northern Atolls

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a white alert for the northern atolls of the Maldives.

The alert is from 1315 hours to 1800  hours, and from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll. The forecast warns of strong winds of 19-24 mph, with gusts of wind up to 45 mph. The MMS warns of rough seas as well.

According to the MMS website, the Maldives will experience thundershowers for the next three days.

MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:

White alert: Alert Level 1

Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2

Orange warning: Alert Level 3

Red warning: Alert Level 4
