Met Office Issues Yellow and White Alerts as Strong Winds Sweep Across Maldives

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a yellow alert for the northern atolls and a white alert for the central atolls, warning of strong winds and hazardous sea conditions across affected regions.
The yellow alert, in effect from 07:30 to 13:30, covers areas from Haa Alifu Atoll to Kaafu Atoll, with forecasts predicting winds of 25–30 mph and gusts reaching up to 50 mph, accompanied by very rough seas.
Meanwhile, the white alert—also effective from 07:30 to 13:30—applies to regions between Alifu Alifu Atoll and Laamu Atoll, warning of similarly strong winds and rough seas.

In response to the adverse weather, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) issued a public advisory yesterday, urging residents to avoid all non-essential sea travel until conditions improve.
According to the MMS, the Maldives is expected to experience thundershowers over the next three days, and authorities continue to advise the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:
- White alert: Alert Level 1
- Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2
- Orange warning: Alert Level 3
- Red warning: Alert Level 4
