The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has warned that “feels like” temperatures in the Maldives are expected to rise above normal in March and April due to low wind speeds, clear skies, and increased humidity.
MMS said March and April are typically the warmest months across the Maldives. During this period, winds tend to weaken and skies remain largely clear, while humidity levels stay persistently high.
According to the agency, these conditions make the air temperature feel more intense and reduce the diurnal temperature range — the difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures. As a result, the “feels like” temperature can be significantly higher than the recorded air temperature.
MMS said that in April the average temperature is expected to be slightly above climatological norms.
The meteorological service shares daily air temperature and “feels like” temperature updates from five meteorological stations at 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00 through the MMS Community Viber group. In most cases, the day’s maximum temperature occurs around 14:00.
Data collected by MMS since 1991 shows that the Maldives’ average monthly maximum temperature generally ranges between 30.8°C and 31.5°C. However, temperatures tend to rise during March, April and May.
Records indicate that the highest average monthly maximum temperature is recorded in April in Hanimaadhoo at 32.8°C. In the central region, the average monthly maximum temperature in April reaches 32.1°C at Hulhulé, while in the south it reaches 31.8°C at Gan.
MMS noted that the data reflects long-term observations collected over more than three decades, highlighting the seasonal pattern of higher temperatures during the early months of the year.
