The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a nationwide forecast predicting rain over the next 24 hours.
According to the Met Office, heavy rain accompanied by thunder is anticipated across all regions of the Maldives throughout today and into tonight.
While the northern islands are expected to experience showers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, overall favourable weather conditions have been forecasted for these days. Similarly, the central region is expected to see generally good weather with occasional showers on Wednesday, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr celebrations. However, rain is forecasted for the southern region on Wednesday.
Despite the anticipated rainfall, the Met Office has reassured that sea conditions are not expected to be significantly rough, thus not posing a hindrance to travel. However, seafarers are advised to exercise caution as slightly rough seas may occur during showers.
Given that the final 10 days of Ramadan are public holidays, many residents of Male’ have opted to travel to the islands and vice versa. These holidays are set to conclude on Saturday, leading to an expected increase in travel towards the end of the week.
