The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) and the Malé City Council have closed 70 food outlets as part of a joint operation to inspect eateries for hygiene standards.
The operation examined 1,010 food service establishments across Malé, Hulhumalé, Villimale, and Gulhifalhu. It began on 21 September and continued until Wednesday, covering establishments registered with the MFDA, those operating without renewing their permits after expiry, and unregistered outlets.
During the operation, 70 establishments were closed. Of these, 27 have since been re-authorised after submitting the necessary forms for renewal and registration.
