The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has banned the import, sale, and use of Cofsy cough syrup again in the country following the identification of a quality issue in the product.

The syrup, which is commonly administered to children for coughs and colds, has been prohibited with immediate effect. Pharmacies have been instructed to dispose of any remaining stock in line with existing regulations.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that no cases of adverse health effects linked to the syrup have been reported so far. It also reminded pharmacies and suppliers to maintain proper standards in the transportation and storage of medicines to ensure product safety.

Last year in August, the MFDA had also announced a ban on Cofsy due to similar quality concerns, but the suspension was lifted the following month after a month-long investigation into the product’s quality.
