The authority stated that the product, manufactured in the United States, had been flagged by the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). The MFDA confirmed that consignments of Dr Pepper had been imported into the Maldives and were subsequently tested.
Laboratory results showed that the drink contained benzoic acid above the permissible safety limit. In response, the MFDA has prohibited its importation, distribution, and consumption in the Maldives as a precautionary measure.
The authority has urged the public to contact its offices through designated phone lines for further information.
