According to the authority, a special inspection will be carried out from 21 to 30 September in collaboration with the Male’ City Council and the Housing Development Corporation. The initiative is aimed at encouraging establishments to uphold hygiene standards while also identifying service providers that remain unregistered with the MFDA.
The MFDA noted that all food service establishments are required to register under the Food Safety Act, which came into force on 23 August last year. Establishments found operating without registration will be closed, and details of such businesses will be made public during the inspection.
Under the act, food providers must obtain a licence to operate, and the MFDA has the authority to take immediate action against those failing to comply. Penalties for violations include fines ranging from MVR 10,000 to MVR 500,000, depending on the severity of the offence.
