MFDA Registers 363 Medicines Last Year

A total of 363 medicines were registered by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) last year, according to official statistics.

MFDA is responsible for overseeing the registration and sale of medicines in the Maldives. According to Public Service Media (PSM), the data shared by the authority showed that 594 medicines were submitted for registration during the year. Of these, 363 medicines were approved while 231 applications were rejected.

The authority also reported that 69 pharmacies were newly registered during the year. This included 33 pharmacies in Malé City and 36 in the atolls. At the same time, licences of 20 pharmacies were revoked for various reasons, including 15 in Malé and five in the atolls.

In addition, 15 companies were newly granted permission to import and store medicines, while 30 such permits were revoked.

A total of 106 pharmacists were newly licensed to dispense medicines during the year. MFDA also conducted 490 inspections, including routine inspections and follow-up checks.
