Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has held discussions with the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) to explore opportunities to expand its trade in the Japanese market.

The talks took place during an official visit to Tokyo by a high-level MIFCO delegation. Discussions focused on increasing the presence of MIFCO products in Japan and identifying potential areas of collaboration where JETRO could support the company’s objectives.

JETRO is a Japanese government-related organisation that promotes mutually beneficial trade and investment relations between Japan and other countries. Established in 1958 to promote Japanese exports abroad, the organisation’s focus has evolved to include promoting foreign direct investment into Japan and supporting small and medium-sized Japanese companies in expanding their global export potential.

MIFCO was represented at the meeting by Strategic Consultant Athif Shakoor and Corporate Affairs General Manager Aminath Saniyya Shareef. The Maldives’ Embassy in Japan was also represented by Deputy Ambassador Ahmed Adil and Second Secretary Hawwa Samha.

The meeting forms part of MIFCO’s broader efforts to increase the visibility and reach of its products in key international markets.

The company has been working to promote Maldivian fisheries products in several markets around the world and regularly participates in international trade fairs to showcase and market its products.
