According to the Fisheries Ministry, MIFCO purchased a total of 8,324 metric tons of tuna in January 2024, marking the highest quantity bought by the company in a January since 1997.
The increase follows an improvement in fishing conditions across the Maldives, which MIFCO highlighted in mid-January. Data from the company indicates that an average of 280 metric tons of fish was purchased daily throughout the month.
This development comes after a period of decline in fish purchases by MIFCO towards the end of last year.
