Migrant Worker Injured In Malé Café Blaze

A fire broke out at a café in Malé City yesterday, causing minor burn injuries to a migrant worker.

The incident occurred at the Hotel al-Zaika café near ADK Hospital in the Henveiru district and was reported to the Maldives National Defence Force Fire and Rescue Service at around 12:44 pm. Firefighters from the Malé Fire Station were dispatched immediately and brought the fire under control at around 1:00 pm.

Images released by the MNDF indicated that the blaze began in the café’s kitchen. The National Disaster Management Authority confirmed that one migrant worker sustained minor burns to the leg.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
This was the second fire reported in Malé on Saturday. Earlier in the morning, a separate fire occurred at an abandoned building in Maafannu at around 4:11 am, though that incident did not result in any injuries.
