Minister for Language, History, and Culture, Adam Naseer Ibrahim, has announced that the architectural drawings for the restoration of the historic ‘Usgekolhu’ museum have been completed, with the project set to commence soon.
The minister stated that the administration has prioritised the preservation of Maldivian culture and heritage through initiatives focused on historic landmarks. He highlighted that heritage sites in Utheemu, Thakandhoo, and Baarah would also be modernised following a similar blueprint.
Describing ‘Usgekolhu’ as a significant heritage project announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the minister noted that efforts are underway to develop it as an interactive museum. The site will also be designated as a heritage location, with the necessary architectural plans already completed.
As part of the project, an area within Sultan Park, where ‘Usgekolhu’ is located, will also be developed. The new interactive museum will include the Kalhuvakaru Mosque and a model of the legendary vessel ‘Kalhuoffummi’.
