Minister Discusses Reopening of Shangri-La Villingili and Boosting Connectivity to Addu

The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim, has engaged in discussions with Shangri-La’s Vice President of Investment and Asset Management, Samuel Lim Yong Peng, on the reopening of Shangri-La Villingili Resort and efforts to improve transport connectivity to Addu City.

The meeting took place during Minister Thoriq’s current visit to Qatar. The discussions focused on accelerating the reopening of the resort, which is seen as a significant development for Addu’s tourism sector. According to Minister Thoriq, the reopening of Shangri-La Villingili would provide a substantial boost to tourism in Addu and is expected to create additional employment opportunities for the local community.
Samuel Lim Yong Peng conveyed Shangri-La’s commitment to advancing the project with the support of the government. The discussions also covered strategies to enhance air connectivity to Addu City, including efforts to attract more international flights to Addu City International Airport.
The reopening of Shangri-La Villingili Resort, coupled with improved air transport links, is anticipated to contribute to the broader development of the tourism industry in the southern Maldives.
