The nation’s health objectives cannot be achieved without the full participation of its citizens, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said during the inauguration of a specialised medical camp in Hulhumalé Phase II.

Minister Nazim highlighted the link between a healthy population and national productivity, describing physical well-being as fundamental to both economic vitality and societal happiness. He called for a broader understanding of public health that extends beyond hospitals and clinics, emphasising the role of families and communities in fostering wellness.

Introducing the concept of “health beyond health,” the minister pointed to sports tournaments, fitness classes, and other community activities as integral to creating a healthy society. He stressed that preventive measures are essential to sustaining public health and protecting citizens from illness before it occurs.

Turning to government policy, Minister Nazim underlined efforts to reduce tobacco use, noting that success depends on the shared commitment of vendors, consumers, individuals in restricted areas, and enforcement authorities. He warned that without collective responsibility, national health targets would remain unattainable.

Medical camps like the one launched in Hulhumalé Phase II were described as important platforms for public education and the promotion of preventive care. Minister Nazim concluded by emphasising that the success of national health policies relies on cooperation across all sectors, leading to a healthier population and stronger communities.
