He stressed that island nations, including the Maldives, face disproportionate challenges from climate-related impacts, underscoring the need for coordinated international efforts to develop sustainable solutions across all levels of the maritime sector.

Minister Ameen also drew attention to the work of the ‘Twenty-first Century Maritime Cooperation’ Committee, which he said plays a key role in protecting marine ecosystems while enhancing economic benefits. He noted that effective implementation of the committee’s decisions would bring significant advantages to small island nations.

The Minister further outlined a forward-looking vision for sustainable maritime economic growth, highlighting the potential of technological innovation to drive progress. He proposed practical measures for both government agencies and private sector stakeholders to adopt in pursuit of these goals.

The conference featured discussions on disaster prevention, climate change mitigation, and marine resource management. Around 120 participants attended, including members and advisors of the ‘Twenty-first Century Maritime Cooperation’ Committee, representatives from international organisations, foreign embassies, academia, and key business figures from the maritime industry.
