Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has apologised for disclosing the personal details of a single mother who publicly complained about not receiving Zakat.
In a Facebook post, Dr Shaheem said he had no intention of revealing anyone’s private information and explained that he shared the details because he believed the allegations made by the woman were false.
“I have the utmost respect for her humanity. If the information I revealed could be misunderstood or if her personal details were disclosed, I sincerely apologise,” he said.
Dr Shaheem had published information about a 37-year-old woman, including the amount she had received from Zakat House last year, the monthly assistance she receives as a single mother, and other funds collected.
