Adam Shareef Umar, the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, has urged guesthouses and tourism facilities on local islands to strictly adhere to government guidelines regarding the provision of food and beverages to tourists during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a recent social media post, Minister Umar highlighted the importance of local tourism establishments, including guesthouses, cafés, and restaurants, following specific guidelines when serving food to foreign visitors.

The Minister emphasised that it is crucial for all guesthouses, cafés, and restaurants to comply with these guidelines during Ramadan. This includes ensuring that food is served away from the sight of local residents in order to maintain cultural sensitivity.
The local government ministry has received several complaints from concerned residents regarding food arrangements for foreign tourists staying at guesthouses. Minister Umar’s call to action seeks to address these concerns and ensure that local tourism practices align with community expectations.
