Ministry Announces Special Operation Kurangi Event Today Near Market

The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced that a special Operation Kurangi event will take place today for foreign workers in the North Harbour area, local markets, and atoll shops.

The event will be held near The Shot Harbour Restaurant in North Harbour from 14:00 to 22:00. Employers have been requested to encourage foreign workers in the area to participate.

Operation Kurangi is the first phase of the government’s three-year plan to address the migrant population issue. Last month, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan stated that 1,455 migrant workers’ biodata had been collected from the Greater Malé Area under the operation.

Last November, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reported that the biodata of 10,000 migrant workers had been collected. In the two months that followed, an additional 15,000 records were gathered.
